The Life Change Process With Coaching Verse Without

A full PDF is available for your use at the bottom of this post.

When someone wants to change their life there are two possible outcomes: Their life becomes changed in the ways they desired or it doesn’t.

With a coach (as shown in the graph below) the odds of change occurring are increased by over 86%.

At the 6 week mark people often experience a drop in motivation when their old fears and doubts resurface. With a coach a person is 80% more likely to continue pursuing their goals.

At the 9 month mark people with a coach have exceeded their own expectations whereas people without a coach have generally reverted to life as it usually is.

The biggest difference between working with a coach verse without is that coaches are trained in how the human mind operates and are thus able to show the client how to stop unproductive and dysfunctional habits that sabotage the life change process. People without coaches tend to think that will power alone is enough to get through them or stop them and 90% of the time this is not true.

What is Life Coaching? Where Should I Go For Training?

What is a life coach?

A certified life coach is someone who has learned how the human mind works, specifically what stops people from changing their lives (even when they really want to) and what has to be changed in order to create the lasting change they want.

A life coach knows the answer to questions such as:

How does a client find out what they really want in life?
How does a client lose weight successfully when they have tried so long on their own and not been able to?
How does a person become more successful and happier in life?

Although you do not need to be certified to be a coach we recommend it for 3 reasons:

1. So your client knows you have been trained and certified (it makes them feel comfortable)
2. So you learn how to create change easily and effectively in a client’s life
3. So you learn about the business and marketing involved in becoming a coach and opening your own practice

As a coach, how to coach clients?

As a coach you will be trained to work with clients out of your own home, but often therapists and quite a few other professions use the coaching in their current career line.

This is a career that can be done part-time while working at your current job until you have enough clients to become a full time coach.

Where should I go for training?

As to where you should go for training, 99% of coaching courses are held via distance learning, but understand these courses are normally held once a week by phone (think conference call) where you and your class mates are all joined together to be trained. It really is just like learning in a class, but without the attendance.

I wanted an in person class as well when I was looking to be become trained and certified but I found that the distance learning via tele-class was even better in a way because I got put in touch with people from all over who shared the passion and dreams I had. It was so motivating!

How do I choose a coaching niche? How much should I charge?

Coaches who coach in certain niches are able to charge more than the average coaching rate ($100.00 an hour USD). The more rare the certification, the higher the fees to receive coaching in this area.

The highest fees in the coaching profession are charged by the following:

  • Master Certified Coaches
  • Mentor Certified Coaches (helping new coaches get started in the coaching profession)
  • Certified Health and Recovery Coaches (helping people improve their health and well being)
  • Business Coaches

Below is a PDF that will help you understand how to choose a niche and how much you will be able to charge in that niche.

Why do I need to be certified?

There are two reasons that professional training and certification is recommended:

1. Coaching is a skill. It needs to be learned and honed prior to calling yourself a professional coach.

There is a gap between happy and unhappy individuals and successful and not-yet-successful individuals.  There are specific tools and strategies that a coach needs to know to take to take clients from category A (unhappy) to category B (happy).

2. The second reason you should consider certification is that your clients want to know you have been trained and that you have the certification to prove it.

As a coach how do I protect myself legally from clients?

We recommend having a client agreement signed by your client prior to beginning your coaching relationship with them.

In your agreement include the following information:

  1. The definition of coaching
  2. Your qualifications
  3. The statement that your client knows they have control of their own life no matter what is discussed during coaching session
  4. The coaching is not a substitute for help with medical or emotional issues

How do I protect my work from being stolen?

As a coach you often come up with great ideas and you deserve to have them kept your great ideas. So how do you go about protecting your work from others?

First know that your work is automatically copyrighted. That is right- automatically. Thus you are legally allowed to put state on your work that it is copyrighted and the date of creation on everything you create. This includes websites, blog posts, eBooks and so on.

But what if someone disagrees with you and claims they came up with your work? The best way to ensure this does not happen is to make sure that everything you create is on file with the copyright office.

The cost is approx. $35.00 per submission in the US. but this way if a dispute occurs you have a fantastic chance of winning if your work is on file.

For more information in the US visit www.copyright.gov.
